Last year Boddhi Satva had a breakout hit with the dancefloor torcher, “Bria’s Offering”. Now, proving us right that he is definitely an artist to look out for this year, he graces us with a brand new EP of music simply titled under his name.
The story of “Bria’s Offering” is one of proof that music can still inspire people to create and make oneself evolve. After seeing a set of none other than Yoruba boss Osunlade in Belgium, Boddhi was left so inspired that he went directly to his studio and created a piece of work which he immediately sent Osunlade.
In true Yoruba style deepness, “Bria’s Offering” delivers a first hand invitation to the dancefloor. It’s syncopated rhythms, dubbed out voices, deep keys, and smooth guitar work give this one a unique vibe that will have the dancers dancing, and everyone else bopping their head to the beat. Perfect for dancing intimately with your partner. Behave.
The EP continues with “Talisman”. Here you begin to witness Boddhi’s growth as a producer, as he continues to evolve this very minimal yet spiritual sound. The minimalism here is reminiscent of Detroit, but the key stabs that come in the middle makes this one of the deepest cuts of house we’ve heard in a minute.
The Detroit drums continue to be present in “Medicine”. This one keeps the tempo down, but its techier and ambiental touches make for some very interesting listening. Just picture this one in a very dark room and some candles. Close your eyes and let that medicine cure you.
We end things off with “O De’ Ko Do”. This is traditional Mali chant for “This is the real deal!” By the sound of this track, which sounds more of a declaration than anything else, we sure understand why this song is called that way.
This is just a small sample of what Boddhi has in store for the music world. Look out for future collaborations with both Osunlade and his protégé, Afefe Iku, as well as more dance floor hotness. Boddhi’s fresh outlook on music is sure to keep opening eyes this year.
