Is it possible to out do three classics in a row? We’re talking about having to step it up even further after creating Yoruba timelessness with “Tree of Life”, “Pride”, and of course the ever amazing “Just a Breath Away”. Well, the undisputable queen of Yoruba Records has done just that. With world renowned producer Osunlade at the helm once again, Yoruba Records proudly presents our latest offering for the world, “Love Song”.
In part one of a two-part 10” single, Nadirah continues her obsession and vision for peace. On the original version, Osunlade’s lush background makes perfect balance to Nadirah’s beautiful vocals as she speaks on how we have lost the essential element of music and life in itself. Love. The breeziness and somberness of this record is striking, and it shows exactly the reason why Osunlade and Nadirah have been able to create timeless music together.
Now, let’s dance. Three remixes. Osunlade, BahSonik, and Frankie Feliciano. To conclude part one of the single, we come to the more up tempo version with BahSonik’s Syam Dub. BahSonik, integrated by producer extraordinaires FilSonik, Julian Bendall of super dance group Bah Samba, and Ben Johnson, have been causing quite a stir in the house world with their reworkings of hits such as Alexander O’Neal’s “Lord”, The Fatback Band’s “Feel The Fire”, Maxine Braham’s “If”, amongst others. Now they bring their magic touch to Yoruba Records with their dub rework of “Love Song”. Keeping in the spirit of the original, the warmness of the keys play an integral part of backing Nadirah’s yearn for a “Love Song”. However, we do see how the percussion is more present on this version. This song was featured in the brand new Soul Heaven compilation “Soul Heaven Presents: Osunlade & DJ Spen” in both the mix CD and limited vinyl editions.
On part two of our two part 10” set, we take things a little further for the floor. This is strictly for the dance floor. What can we say that hasn’t been said about Frankie Feliciano. The man is has been one of the most important figures in the New York house scene for the last 10 years, not only in the DJ tip, but in the production tip as well. His ricanstruction vision for “Love Song” is one that will be having New York and the rest of the world on their feet and ready to dance. With its pure Nuyorican vibes, you can imagine dancing this perfectly to the sounds of Louie Vega or Kevin Hedge at Cielo, or from Timmy Regisford himself in Shelter. This is without a doubt some of the best work Feliciano has executed in the last few years, and we’re happy that the Ricanstruction magic was sprinkled on this Yoruba release.
We end things off with a remix from the man behind the original. As mentioned, Osunlade and Nadirah have a special chemistry when it comes to making music, so when it was time for Osunlade to beef up this already Yoruba classic, we knew we’re up for something special. Played by just about every DJ worldwide (Downloading is bad kids.), in pretty much every relevant house scene everywhere, this quickly became another house classic for Nadirah and Osunlade. You’re hit instantly with those chords, and its subtle bassline and in your face rhythm became just the only ingredients Osunlade and Nadirah needed to spice up a classic.
Recognized as one of the most important dance music labels worldwide, Yoruba Records is a pure source of music created to elevate the spirit. With Osunlade producing and remixing for a multitude of labels and artists, his passion remains with Yoruba Records, and in maintaining their reputation for unparalleled quality in music.
